# Client portals and applications

Software built for your process instead of ten spreadsheets.

**$14,400 for a client portal · $24,300 to replace the software.**

## How many spreadsheets hold your business together?

Usually more than any one person remembers. One holds the job, another the materials, a third the crew's pay. The formulas were written by someone who has left. The weekly report takes half a day to put together. The boxed programme does almost everything, and the rest gets finished off in a messenger thread.

## Software shaped around your work, not the other way round

The app repeats your work instead of forcing you to redo it. First we go through how things run today: who enters what, where approvals wait, where data is keyed in twice. Out of that comes a short written description and a clickable mock-up — you see the app before the first line of code.

Then come monthly milestones. Each one ends with a working part you can hand to a member of staff and test on real data. You pay by milestone, not in one invoice up front.

The source code, the access and the documentation are handed over to you on an itemised list. Another team can carry the app forward — that is written into the contract.

### Why not just use an off-the-shelf programme?

Often you can, and that is the first thing the walk-through settles. Custom is worth it when the process is your advantage and the boxed product wants your work rebuilt around it. If the box fits, it is cheaper to roll it out and link it to what you already run.

### How do we pay, and what happens if the schedule slips?

Payment goes by milestone: a thirty per cent deposit, then on delivery of each one. The price of a milestone is fixed, and hours spent over it inside that milestone are not your bill. The dates and contents of every milestone are in the contract before work starts.

### Can another team carry the app forward?

Yes. The source code, the access and the documentation sit in your own storage from day one. How everything is built and updated is written down, and the reasons behind each decision are kept next to the code. Another team picks up the project in days, not months.

### What happens to the data when the app is no longer needed?

The data is yours. You can take it away as an open file any day, not only when we part company. Database copies are taken on a schedule and kept apart from the working cloud, and we test the restore rather than assume it works.

## Where to send the quote

Tell us who enters what today and in which spreadsheets — we will come back with a plan of milestones and the price of each.
